Have you ever visited Shillong and wondered what those counters at every corner are?

These archers then shoot the arrows continuosly at a target traditionally made up of haystack. Once, all the arrows are shot, officials count these arrows, and at the end give a number for the first round. The same process repeats for the second time as well.
The outcomes of these games is a number ranging from 0 to 99 and these numbers are published everyday except on Sundays.
Interestingly, the game of teer has given rise to a subculture, within the northeastern region of Shillong, Khanapara, Juwai and in some parts of Mizoram and Arunachal Pradesh and Bhutan as well where people above the age of 18 participate in these games by betting on what the First Round number and Second Round number will be.
An estimated 10 lakh people usually bet on teer common numbers. Given the extreme popularity of the teer, the Government of Meghalaya has decided to legalise this activity under the Meghalaya Amusements and Betting Tax (Ammendment) Act 1982.
